Target Audience: K – 8 Literacy Educators, Instructional Coaches, Special Educators
The teaching of writing is a combination of two important things: effective, engaging instruction, and a deep knowledge of how to write well. In this course, teachers will have the opportunity to practice their own writing, and then plan how that same work can support their students. This course is designed around practicing what you teach--writing your own original stories and sharing them with others.
Throughout this course, participants will learn strategies for :
• Establishing helpful writing routines
• Developing a supportive community
• Generating ideas
• Selecting and planning an idea to draft, revise, and edit
• Informally publish their writing
• Create writing notebooks
• Confer with each other
• Create a conferring toolkit (which will be comprised of their own writing to use as examples with students, anchor charts, self-assessment tools and more.)
This is a hybrid course (in-person and virtual learning). Informal, formative assessments are embedded into each session. Available for credit or non-credit.
